Outside your home
Make the most of your homes first impression. When people drive by and see the “For Sale” sign in the yard, they could be drawn in to see more, or not, all based on the outside appearance, or curb appeal, of your home. No matter what you do on the inside, if the potential buyer is not drawn in to see it, your efforts may not repay you in full. Below are a few things to remember when preparing the outside of your home for sale.
- Lawn - Mow the lawn more frequently and plant flowers. In fall, keep leaves swept and in winter keep snow shoveled from walkways.
- Landscaping - Trim shrubs and other landscaping if needed.
- Roof - Make sure roof is in good condition, with no repairs needed, such as loose or missing shingles, etc.
- Gutters - Clean gutters and down spouts.
- Home exterior – Paint your house if necessary. If you decide against painting the entire house, check the window frames and shutters. Paint if needed.
- Windows - Clean windows, maintain sealants around windows, repair torn screens.
- Yard - Pick up bikes, toys, newspapers, tools, trash cans
- Pets - Keep pet areas clean and odor free.
